Letter from Ria Hetke to inform the family that Joop is in hospital again. The medication is not helping any more and she is receiving radiotherapy. She deeply enjoys a tape that Riek sent her that gives her solace in this dark hour.

Joop in a moment of good is wrting a letter herself again. She is surrounded by flowers, lots of tender love and care, letters from Holland and thankful for that.
‘Whatever the future brings, I am being guided by the Lord’s hand’

Letter from Ria Hetke, Joop’s friend to Riek and Jaap and the wider family. Joop is confined to her bed, and because of Joop going through a bad patch (zwak moment) Ria stands in for her to keep the family in the loop of her situation

It is going quite ‘all right’ with Joop (her own words) despite her slow decline. The girls are helping with the laundry while John fixes the garden. Keeping up the correspondence with the family overseas is a little lifeline for Joop

John has taken a weeks holiday to be with Joop while Eleanor and Johannie are off to summer camps. She enjoys her reclining chair listening to the Mennonites radio station

Letter to Arie and Riek where Joop thanks them for their financial support. She cannot perform her household tasks as she’d used to do and relegates it to Johannie. Nevertheless her faith keeps her in an upbeat mood

Joop is in good moods, remembering her good time in Holland. She relates to her brother Arie who is struggling with his health too.
It’s Eleanor’s birthday and Johannie who had a beautiful school report, is helping out.

Letter for Riek’s birthday where Joop thanks for sending [images of] the Dutch princesses. Spring is coming so is exam time for Theo and Johannie.

A new year with new hope. Joop is in good spirits ‘doing pretty well again’ and jokes with Theo about pieces in her hand.
